Rebirth Day – Third Paradise Operation

The Rebirth day is an annual international event dedicated to rebirth, change and the responsibility that each one of us should take in order to build a balanced relationship between nature and artificiality, represented by the artist Michelangelo Pistoletto with the symbol of the Third Paradise, celebrated on 21st December, since 2012.

The Third Paradise is the fusion between the first and the second paradises. The first one is the paradise where human beings were fully integrated with nature. The second one is the artificial paradise, developed by the human intelligence through a process that today has reached a global scale. This paradise is made up of artificial needs, artificial products, artificial comforts, artificial pleasures and any other form of artificiality. An artificial world, which is increasingly causing beneficial effects but also irreversible processes of degradation at a global level. The danger of a tragic collision between the natural and artificial dimensions has been already announced, in every possible way.

If we enable the artificial world, science, technology, art, culture and politics to restore the earth to life and redefine the ethical standards and behaviours, we can generate a new level of planetary civilisation, which is essential to ensure the survival of human beings. This is the project of the Third Paradise by Pistoletto, a new myth that enables everyone to take personal responsibility.
Since 2013, ArtePollino has been involved in this great collective operation, recognising its important value and proposing initiatives in several villages throughout the Park: educational workshops aimed at understanding the symbol and the artist, meetings with students and teachers, concerts. Each time a new, meaningful way to reproduce the symbol designed by Michelangelo Pistoletto has been selected.
