After the success of the 1st edition, the contest has been reproposed. "Pollino secrets" - Photo contest II Edizione Preface
Due to the success of the Photo contest's first edition, named "Pollino secrets" and promoted in all the schools at all levels in the territory of the Pollino National Park, ArtePollino Association promoted its second edition, aiming at the continuation of the theme proposed during the 2009/2010 academic year, so that the experience could become a regular annual meeting for students and teachers from the schools of the Park, who are invited to continue a constructive dialogue with the Association to discover and observe the territory in its multiple aspects, to finally be told by the images.
Framework of the Contest and Theme "Pollino secrets" theme is developed through a narrative by images, that wouldn't be considered as a succession of coloured postcards, but as a different way to tell and popularize the Park's territory, to reveal its secrets.
Revealing the secrets of a place means to catch the less famous and evident aspects and so the more interesting ones. Students are invited to attentively observe the Park's territory and also explore its new artistic dimension, due to the presence of environmental works of art created by world-famous artists, as part of ArtePollino project, who contributed to open a new point of view on the territory. In this way, students could snap its creative appearance, the variety of colours, the magic of an uncontaminated nature, its traditions' strength, the cultural values, the signs of history and each particular aspect that make the Pollino exclusive. The aim of a such initiative is contributing to make the sense of belonging to a territory rooted and inviting schools to better know the surrounding cultural heritage.
Addressee The Photo Contest is addressed to the schools at all levels of the Pollino National Park.
Contest Aim Contest aim is the knowledge of the territory through the photography, which allows, maybe more than any other instrument, to put the feelings evoked by the places into images and to catch their details.
In order to this, the Association invites the schools to take photos to the "Pollino secrets", hence to tell about each of its aspect: nature, art, music, gastronomy, environment, folklore, crafts, etc., all aspects that represent, besides expressing the peculiarities of the regional territory, an universal anthropological and cultural value and a collective heritage.
The location of the works of art/installations in the area of Pollino could offer an incitement to the students to catch also the natural aspects from new and more interesting perspectives because of their relation to the artistic element.
Modalities of participation The Contest is open to all students of the schools at all levels from the Municipalities of Lucania, which are part of the Park, coordinated by a responsible teacher per class. Individual works are not admitted, just the collective ones. Characteristics of the scripts Photos must be in high resolution, and they must be sent no later than the 15 of February 2011 in in traditional- and digital-format, in a sealed envelope, to the registered office of ArtePollino Cultural Association Via Giovanni Falcone n. 3 - 85043 Latronico (PZ), they cannot be over 5 and can be black and white or coloured photos.
Each photo must be accompanied by a descriptive profile (at maximum one file) which includes the necessary indications to identify the place where the photos have been taken and that briefly explains the sense of the photographed subject/s.
Printings should have tho long-side dimension between 24 and 36 cm; framings could be both vertical and horizontal; digital elaborations and photomontages are not admitted; low-resolution or not clear photos will be excluded.
Jury The jury that will select the photos and motivate the choice of the winners, will be composed by Mario Cristiani and Laura Barreca, members of Arte Pollino Project's artistical-scientific Committee, Massimo Lovisco and Angela Rosati, Photographers, Catterina Seia, Cultural Manager,and by the chiefman of ArtePollino Association Gaetano Lofrano.
Prize-giving The prize winners will be notified on 02 of March 2011.
Participants will be invited to the prize-giving day, in which it will be mounted an exhibition about all the competing photos, curated by ArtePollino Association, and it will take care of the prize-giving, the prizes are:
Moreover, certificates of attendance will be given to all the classes involved into the competition.
Secretary's Office Vincenza De Stefano and Stefania Arleo will be the scientific secretaryship of the Contest for the collection of photos and their registration, the registration forms collection, for the informations and the answers by telephone/fax/email.
Photos' ownership It is specified that all the sent photos will not be returned to the participants, but they will be part of an archive curated by ArtePollino association, and they will be available for the Association itself and the Basilicata Region for a possible publication; therefore it is necessary that the teacher in charge would issue an acquittance for the cession of rights (Attached B).
