Among the results showed in Venice: the realization of three great permanent works and the involvement of communities.
During a public meeting, which took place in Venice on Thursday 28th of October 2010, on the occasion of UrbanPromo, Basilicata Region presented the documentary “Diario di un progetto- A project's journey” and Un Altro Sud – Another South ArtePollino's Catalogue. The documentary, edited thanks to the support of the Regional Council's Press Office, and the catalogue, published by Librìa, are presented during a meeting at the presence of Alberto Versace, chiefman of the “Sensi Contemporanei” Coordinating Committee of the Ministry of Economic Development, Francesco Pesce, the manager of the Office of Management Planning and Control in the Basilicata Region, Valerio Giambersio, a member of the Unit for the Evaluation of public investments in the Basilicata Region, Aldo Colella, an Arte Pollino consultant and Gaetano Lofrano, the “Arte Pollino” Association's chiefman. ArtePollino – during the meeting it was said – is a project that could be considered as positive, all in all, both for the involvement of the community, through the realization of three great permanent works, and for the involvement of the communities in some projects together with world-famous artists, who acted in direct contact with local people. The great permanent works realized during the initiative are three. “Cinema di terra – Earth Cinema” by Anish Kapoor in the thermal baths of Latronico, “RB Ride” by Carsten Höller in San Severino Lucano and the “Vegetal Theatre” by Giuseppe Penone in Noepoli. In this way, it has been possible to involve considerable innovative factors, which, on a local level, did not lack of producing a lively debate, but indeed they preserved a bond with the traditions of a mountain territory that for its own nature is hardly accessible. Particularly positive were the educational activities for more than 600 teachers and students of the main schools in the area, the involvement of the associative world, the realization of popular and communication activities inside and outside the area. From the results of the first rating, the project “kept the promise” in its first edition, not only contributed to attract new tourist flows, reversing the negative tendency of the previous year, but above all allowed the creation of a new competitive identity for this territory, that is starting to consider itself as “another South”.
