SENISE – It finished with the presentation of the workshops carried out by the three artists, Claudia Losi, Nils-Udo and Anni Rapinoja, the “ArtePollino un Altro Sud- ArtePollino Another South” 2009 edition. A project for the local development which is part of "Sensi contemporanei" programme, promoted by Basilicata Region, the Ministry of Economic Development and the Ministry of Cultural Activities and Heritage and the Venice Biennale Foundation. It was a day that, after the last 5th of September with the opening of the works by Anish Kapoor at the thermal baths in Latronico, by Carsten Höller on “Timpa della Guardia” in San Severino Lucano and by Giuseppe Penone in the Sarmento valley, ends with educational activities in the schools and in the territory. Those artists worked with the communities from Latronico, San Paolo Albanese and Terranova del Pollino, using nature, traditions and local culture as a primary element of inspiration for their contemporary works. The work by Claudia Losi, an art considered as a “work in progress”, she used the stories told by the people coming from the Lucania side of Pollino, to tell about a personal childhood memory, documented with drawings and photos. The wisely collected material was used by this artist from Piacenza, to create some drawings that, with the collaboration of “Il Tassello” Association from Latronico, have been sewed by “puntino ad ago” technique on different second-hand fabrics, that after have been reused to create some cone-shaped pillows. A task that takes experience and creativity. During the morning, in the thermal baths of Latronico, the embroiderers of the project performed in a funny play (see the photo), that was about the ArtePollino project, which received many compliments by those attending. Nils-Udo finished his workshop with the students of local schools. In the municipality of Terranova del Pollino, the German artist will create a “land art” work, that is part of a project on education and territorial start-up named “local communities”. The established location is between Casa del Conte and Acquatremola, Pietra Capanna. Instead, the Finnish artist Anni Rapinoja inaugurated a Photo Exhibition for the project in the town of San Paolo Albanese which aims to enhance local traditions. Art, in the opinion of the artist, must be by the people and not abstract and unattainable. Rapinoja, thorugh his point of view on art, wants to create a connection between two realities that are commonly considered as different: the one of contemporary art and the other one of a local specific context, using, in order to this, an element of the local culture: the broom plant. Through it, which covers the mountains of Sarmento valley, the artist will create some gigantic brooms, using wooden poles of about 5 meters of height, driven into the ground with the broom plant on the extremity. Finally, Mario Brunello ended the evening with the "Pensavo fosse Bach" concert notes, in the San Francesco Church in Senise. Brunello, one of the most remarkable name in the Italian and international music scenes, will perform in a multimedia show with music, lights and videos by Vinicio Capossela, dedicated to the Suites by Bach, of which Brunello is considered one of the greatest interpreter nowadays.
