SAN SEVERINO L. – ArtePollino continues with its popularizing activity of the project that will lead different world-famous artists in the Lucania side of the biggest National Park of Europe. During these weeks the Association is having a non-stop tour in the towns of the concerned territory, dealing with the popularization and handing out informative gadgets, and it is having a great success, not only at the stand, but also among the people who talks well about it in the streets. In addition to the popularization, there is also the direct involvement of children and parents, through some workshops which aim to make them aware of the project, thanks to its knowledge and diffusion, and make them aware of the world of contemporary art expressions. In collaboration with “Ambrosia” Social Cooperative, the members of the homonymous Association, in the square of San Severino, involved the children and their parents to let them take part into a collective action which utilizes the stencil technique to decorate the ArtePollino T-shirts, where there were the artists' names and the project's logo printed on. All was made with a view to the official opening on the next 5th September. It was the turn of the Anglo-Indian sculptor Anish Kapoor, the provocative and confusing Belgian artist Carsten Höller, a master who bases his poetics on the nature, and Giuseppe Penone from Piemonte, to have the task of realizing the first permanent works. In the thermal baths of Latronico, Kapoor hollowed a cleft in the earth of about 45m of length. Visitors are invited to enter it and look through an embrasure, feeling as an integral part of the nature. Its perimeter will be embellished with various tree plantings. Sarmento Valley is the place chosen by Penone for his “Vegetal Theatre” to install. Along the torrent, a circle-shaped figure with a diameter of 125m. made only by trees, bushes, stones and a stretch of water in the middle, between the audience and the stage. And finally, in San Severino Lucano, at an height of more than a thousand meters, on Timpa della Guardia, where from a side you can admire the highest summits of Pollino and from the other side you can admire the Sinni Valley with the wonderful scenery of Monte Cotugno dam, there was located the astonishing “RB Ride” by Carsten Höller: a gigantic scenic merry-go-round, with 12 arms for 24 persons, which slowly rotates on the top of the mountain. Moreover, it was decided to develop an educational and workshops' section in some certain places, with three more artists: Claudia Losi, Anni Rapinoja and Nils-Udo. Claudio Sole |
