Thanks to the ArtePollino project, the Basilicata Region received the special mention from the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities in the ambit of the Council of Europe Landscape Award.
In the Italy's Tenth Anniversary of the European Landscape Convention, the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities (MiBAC) organized the selection to participate to the Council of Europe Landscape Award's second edition, announced during the implementation of the European Landscape Convention.
The selection procedure was applied to public administrations and NGO, in order to select, on a national level, the most significant projects which are considered as exemplary models of good practices, that made the local communities aware of the cultural heritage of their territory, developing this places' potential through quality projects and interventions. The Italian selection intended to promote its engagement in the landscape and all of its components, the natural and cultural ones, considering the most general meaning affirmed in the Convention, paying particular attention to the contemporary intervention. Among the 95 applications that arrived, as best examples of preservation, management and planning of the landscapes, the Commission, composed of managers of the Ministry and specialists of good reputation, awarded the Italian candidate “Carbonia città del Novecento – riqualificazione socio-economica e ambientale” project, for the socio-economic and environmental requalification. In this prestigious context, the Basilicata Region received the special mention for the ArtePollino initiative, a project about the local development with the aim to enhance the territory of the Pollino National Park. This mention is to be added to further considerable appreciations which have already been received by the project, as: the UrbanPromo Prize 2010, in which ArtePollino was the winner for the “Equilibrio degli interessi” section and the Mediterranean Landscape Award that was part of the Pays.Med.Urban project, in which the initiative was selected to be listed in the Catalogue of the Good Practices in the Landscape.
