Preface ArtePollino cultural association continues its promotional and popularizing activity ofthe homonymous project, through a series of initiatives addressed to the schools from theMunicipalities of Lucania which are part of the Park. In continuation of the educational seminars for the teachers and the creative workshops organizedfor the students, the association promoted a Photo Contest related to the works/installations of theArtePollino project in order to spread and diffuse the themes linked to Art and Nature and to thesense of the project, which goes toward its most important stage: the opening of the works of art onJuly.
Framework of the Contest and Theme "Pollino secrets" theme is developed through a narrative by images, that wouldn't be considered as asuccession of coloured postcards, but as a different way to tell and popularize the Park's territory, toreveal its secrets. Revealing the secrets of a place means to catch the less famous and evident aspects and so the moreinteresting ones. Students are invited to attentively observe the Park's territory and walk alongthe routes that will be created around the works of art, in order to snap its creative appearance,the magic of an uncontaminated nature, its traditions' strength, the cultural values, the signs ofhistory and each particular aspect that make the Pollino exclusive. The aim of a such initiative is tocontribute to make the sense of belonging to a territory rooted and to invite schools to better knowthe surrounding cultural heritage.
Addressee The Photo Contest is addressed to the schools at all levels of the Pollino National Park.
Contest Aim Contest aim is the knowledge of the territory through the photography, which allows, maybe morethan any other instrument, to put the feelings evoked by the places into images and to catch theirdetails. In order to this, the Association invites the schools to take photos to the "Pollino secrets", hence totell about each of its aspect: nature, art, music, gastronomy, environment, folklore, crafts, etc., allaspects that represent, besides expressing the peculiarities of the regional territory, an universalanthropological and cultural value and a collective heritage. The location of the works of art/installations in the area of Pollino could offer an incitement to thestudents to catch also the natural aspects from new and more interesting perspectives because oftheir relation to the artistic element.
Modalities of participation The Contest is open to all students of the schools at all levels from the Municipalities of Lucania,which are part of the Park, coordinated by a responsible teacher per class. Individual works arenot admitted, just the collective ones. Characteristics of the scripts Photos must be sent in traditional- or digital-format, they cannot be over 5 and can be black andwhite or coloured photos. Each photo must be accompanied by a descriptive profile (at maximum one file) which includesthe necessary indications to identify the place where the photos have been taken and that brieflyexplains the sense of the photographed subject/s. Printings should have tho long-side dimension between 24 and 36 cm; framings could be bothvertical and horizontal; digital elaborations and photomontages are not admitted.
Jury The jury that will select the photos and motivate the choice of the winners, will be composed byMario Cristiani, Laura Barreca, Laura Tomaselli, members of Arte Pollino project's scientificcommittee, and the chiefman of ArtePollino Association Gaetano Lofrano.
Prize-giving The prize winners will be notified no later than 15 of November 2009, then, the Association willtake care of the prize-giving, the prizes are:
- books
- camera
- certificate of attendance
Secretary's Office Stefania Arleo, Vincenza De Stefano and Gaetano A. Lofrano will be the scientific secretaryshipof the Contest for the collection of photos and the registration forms, for the informations and theanswers by telephone/fax/email.
Photos' ownership It is specified that all the sent photos will not be returned to the participants, but they will be partof an archive curated by ArtePollino association, therefore it is necessary that the teacher in chargewould issue an acquittance for the cession of rights (Attached B).
