Giuseppe Penone was born in Garessio, in the province of Cuneo in the 1947. He lives and works in Tourin, and periodically in Paris, where he teaches in the École des Beaux-Arts.
The art by Penone entered the doors of the most famous museums in the world, as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of New York, the Tate Gallery of London, the Kunstalle of Basilea, the Stadelijk Museum of Amsterdam. His works were exhibited in the Venice Biennale in the 2007.
Since his artistic beginning (his first personal exhibition was in the 1968 in the Deposito d'Arte Presente of Torino) Giuseppe Penone based his research on the man-nature relation.

Vegetal Theatre - ArtePollino 2009 (work in progress)

Vegetal Theatre is a work in progress, which was opened by the realization of the “stone brain”.

It is considered by the artist as a work with the functions to exalt and get excited in the place where the Sarmento Torrent springs, and to be helpful for the theatrical plays. A wide place able to accomodate a great number of people, but with a more intimate and meditative area in its internal part.

It is circle-shaped, with a diameter of 125 m, made by natural elements, trees, bushes, stones, with a stretch of water in the middle between the audience and the stage: “a place, the artist states, that is part of region's landscape, created by vegetal elements which limit the soaces and limit the parts”. Vegetal Theatre is also a place where the nature is the scene of herself, but also the landscape represented by a human creation.
